NFL Week 6 Picks

There are a lot of good lines this week, and some flat out good games. I also have hit the point of evaluating certain teams based on trustworthiness, which I'll save for a later article. Here are the lines that intrigue me:

Cleveland at Pittsburgh -14
Kansas City at Washington -6.5
Philly at Oakland +14
Buffalo at NY Jets -9.5
Chicago at Atlanta -3.5

Here are the good matchups:

NY Giants at New Orleans -3
Baltimore at Minnesota -3
Denver at San Diego

  1. Intriguing lines mainly consist of terrible teams that still don't have big enough spreads. How high would the spread for Oakland/Philly have to be for you to bet on the Raiders? I think the Raiders might need +40 for me to feel good about it

Ditto for Cleveland at Pittsburgh and Buffalo at the Jets... Buffalo just lost to Cleveland 3-6 for heaven's sake

Also do we remember the last time Washington was favored by a touchdown against a terrible team? It was vs Tampa last time, it's vs KC now. And last time they had just lost to the Rams. And they missed their line against the Bucs by a lot. How can we learn nothing from this??

Finally the Bears at the Falcons... that line says to me that nobody has figured out Atlanta. They were underdogs vs SF and stomped them, and now they play the Bears who aren't great and are barely a field goal favorites at home. What's the smart bet here?

  2. As for the games - Saints vs Giants looks like it could be the best game of the year so far. Easily the two best teams in the NFC going head to head? Who you got in this one? I'll take NO because it's at home in the dome

Baltimore at Minnesota is good and might be the week Favre has a classic 4 INT game, but we'll see. Might also be the week Peterson has a classic 200 yard game against a good defense.

And my maligned Chargers take on the Broncos in San Diego on Monday night, here's hoping we can stay competitive in the AFC West. If we lose and the Broncos start 6-0 I would be extremely pessimistic about our post-season chances.

  3. Here are Simmons' picks for the week.

I'm also adding the follow Simmons line to my picks:

    Derek Anderson's Week 5 Performance (+5.5) over A TIPPED-OVER PORT-O-JOHN

  4. My 3 picks for this week:

    1) Bengals -5.5: dance with the one that brought ya; why jump ship now? I think they cover with a FG in the final 2 minutes.

    2) Pats -9.5: For the life of me, I can't figure out why this line is this low; are the Titans still getting love from last year? What have they shown us that says they'll be able to compete in this game? Mayo shuts down Johnson (<80 total yards), and the Pats win 31-10.

    3) Eagles -14.5: Agree with your sentiment Royce - this line would only be too high if it sniffed 3+ TDs. I'm thinking 24-6 here.

I also thoroughly enjoyed the random lines Simmons through out there today. My favorite:

PUBLIC WI-FI USE (-3.5) over The Fear of a Horrifying Incident That Can't Be Unseen

  5. Pittsburgh doesn't win by 2 TD's. They had to score 38 to win by 10. Every other game is within three points. I'll take Cleveland +14, Philly -14, NYJ -9.5, KC +6.5, and Jacksonville -9.5.

Basically I'm picking against the Steelers (and the huge margin), Oakland, Buffalo, Washington, and St. Louis. I like picking against bad teams.

  6. Wow so Oakland and Buffalo won outright which is pretty amazing. First week of the NFL season where things have gone off the rails for the big favorites. The Browns also covered by ONE POINT even though they got stomped - a reason to hate picking the lines

I ended up 2-for-5 for the week with the Chiefs and Falcons getting it done

  7. Picking all the games, I went 10-3. Picking just 5 games, I went 2-3. I'll just keep dominating our group pick 'em, because I don't think I know how to properly gamble. Seriously, I am dominating our group.
