Western Australia

In the vein of cool places we'd like to go, I think there's something really appealing about Western Australia. Not just Perth, but the whole scope of the undeveloped natural land there. Something about it reminds me of the American West when it was still developing - a kind of frontier land. It seems like a place where you could have adventures like this LA Times travel writer and get lost from the world. Plus there is a city there called Monkey Mia, which tickles me. Does the allure of unspoiled nature entice you?

  1. This is my version of a Bill Simmons-esque self-indulgent article where I'm probably the only person who cares about it. But for whatever reason Western Australia has taken over my mind as a completely romantic location.

Do you all have your own romantic or exotic travel locations that you are intoxicated with? Particularly places you've never even been, but want to visit?

  2. I would enjoy a walkabout.

My dream travel location is coming to fruition. I am going to visit the Louvre and other museums and finally see works of art I have always enjoyed and studied, but never seen in person.

  3. Be sure to brief us upon your return from Paris. If you don't have a guide book already let me recommend Rick Steves' Paris. He has never steered me wrong in Europe.

I'd enjoy a walkabout too, except for the fact that everything that lives there can freaking kill you. And then there's those dangerous kangaroos...

  4. So I was at a bar this weekend I was talking to two Australian guys. They were telling crazy stories about people encountering dangerous animals in the Australian wilderness.

My favorite: two mates of theirs were camping northwestern Australia. During the night, a crocodile came along and pulled one of the guys OUT of the tent. His friend managed to shoot the crocodile and the guy survived. Best part of the story - as the injured man lay there waiting for the rescue party to reach their distress beacon, he asks his friend "How am I doing?" to which his 'friend' responds "Oh, you're fucked!"

  5. Ha, Royce this post is definitely a different type than usual, never seen a wanderlust type on here before I like it! :)
I really really want to go to Berlin (kickass art scene) or I want to go to India. In fact, I had this month long India trip planned in my early 20's and my parents and friends killed it by saying it was crazy and dangerous. hmmph.

  6. Yes true, my posts are almost as awesome as me

No but seriously, good choices. I have never considered Berlin a hot spot - what makes its art scene so cool? I actively bagged on Germany not long ago, please don't make me eat crow about it being a boring place.

Also I've heard India is awesome, and I don't think it's all that crazy and dangerous. Do what moves you! Go to India if it sounds cool!

  7. I don't think I'd do well in India - too many people! I'm not the biggest fan of chaos, not matter how organized it is, and some of the pictures you see on why you should visit India sure do seem to be chaotic.

I want to see you eat cow Royce - Caitlin, please make Royce eat cow.
