Two of my photos from Paris
You can see Rodin's The Thinker below the Eiffel Tower. There is a Statue of Liberty, not far from the Eiffel Tower, on the Seine.
Tour Eiffel is tall enough to dominate the Paris skyline and be seen from many vantage points in Paris.

The Eiffel Tower is significantly more visible from around Paris, than Big Ben is visible in London.
ReplyDeleteAwesome photos, I particularly love the Thinker with the Eiffel Tower in the background.
ReplyDeleteYou make a great point about the Eiffel Tower being visible from all over Paris - it makes the entire city really photogenic because you that object of interest in the background. I also loved the Champ du Mars and that whole promenade surrounding the Eiffel Tower. It's laid out so well and that makes it fun to just walk around and picnic there (probably better in summer, might've been too cold when you were there).
That said I love London and think it's very photogenic too but in a different way. The city has a more cramped, old-school feel with its narrow and winding streets with sudden openings into awesomeness like the Parliament building area, Trafalgar Square, Westminster, and St Paul's. I like that it has that older, Renaissance and Gothic style vs. the wide neo-classical boulevards going on in Paris. Just a unique character I guess.
I, too, really enjoy the Thinker/Eiffel Tower picture - great depth in the photo!
ReplyDeletePS How was the weather in Paris? Our November trip is tentatively set for Pairs/Brussels/Amsterdam, but could be headed towards a warmer/tropical locale...
Well, we did so much walking around that I was warm and/or sweating a little especially carrying a backpack with a jacket, umbrella, and camera in it. It rained for an hour or so every day, but never the same time. Sometimes early morning, afternoon, or at night while we were sleeping. But it never felt very cold. A few days I decided to go with shorts and a t-shirt and did fine. I also carried a jacket because it usually cooled off a little in the evening. As long as you are moving around to see everything, you won't be cold. And definitely take the Metro every where. We never waited longer than 4 minutes for the next train.
ReplyDeleteVery cool link, thanks Ron
ReplyDeleteMy favorite photo from the 1600+ photos I took in Paris and London. This is currently the background on my computer.
ReplyDeleteOk we are about to get into a France photo smackdown... I'll pull out my favorite two from my trip there and go at it
ReplyDeleteWe'll make a separate post and we can do London (or England) if you want
Dude, I took 1600 photos. There's no way you took a better picture than me. OR you've already seen three of my top photos and you think you can beat them?
ReplyDeleteWell it's not so much which is "better" but just putting up my favorites in addition to your favorites... cause it's subjective
ReplyDeleteBut ya I took way better pictures than you
