Music Tuesdays - Loro by Pinback (via Grace Boyle)

Like all good things, Pinback is from San Diego. Grace's comment on this song is "imagine listening to it while driving alone on an empty highway at night." Well, when you put it that way... Yet another good find - thanks Grace!

This week our friend C-Mac also has some music up, and I am really digging the song she chose called Hey You by Pony Pony Run Run. A definite 80s/ early 90s feel.

  1. I imagine myself listening to this song while meandering through a large city on a sunny afternoon - simply taking in all the sights, sounds, smells the city has to offer. Such a peaceful song! Since it makes me happy, I'm adding an extra 0.5 to it's score, giving it a total of 4/5 happy faces.

  3. Scott, wow, an extra .5 to the score for a 4/5! I like your description of meandering through a large city on a sunny afternoon. Can't you just imagine it in a movie scene?

  4. Definitely a relaxing song and it helps to be from San Diego. I would renew the five song grace period, but I believe you still have eight songs left in the current grace period, so we'll leave it at an 8 song grace period.

I'm trying to think of another way to describe this song other than the word relaxing.

  5. Okay C-Mac finally has her song up, so I've updated the link above. I like both her song and our song a whole lot.

She has explicitly called out both us at FIWK and Grace, saying that C-Mac picks the better songs regularly. Say what?

Scott, as the completely unbiased scorer of the songs, you can be the arbiter of this epic gauntlet throwing.

  6. Aaron - you really suck at this grace period stuff. It's a 10-song grace period.

Royce - I'm off to listen to the other entrants. Do you have one yourself, or are you simply going to use Grace for her songs?

  7. No, I got it right. It's normally five, but I liked Get By enough that I extended it to ten. He has used two songs that I did not like, leaving eight. I liked this song and was ready to renew the normal five song grace period, but I don't want to be unfair and reduce his current eight songs down to five, so I left it at eight.

It will only be confusing if Royce puts up a song with "five", "eight", "ten", or "grace period" in the title.

  8. Hmm - I may have to expand my very scientific rating system here to avoid ties, as I want to give C-Mac a 4/5, but think the FIWK/Grace submission is superior. Therefore, C-Mac and Pony Pony Run Run receive 3.75/5 Happy Faces.

In a somewhat unrelated note, I thoroughly enjoyed C-Mac's link to Adora Svitak's recent TED speech - that girl just wins.

  9. Aaron - just because you said that, my next song is going to be by Maroon 5... or maybe Jurassic 5...

By the way, I need to say how incredibly high pressure the grace period is. Like, if I have eight songs in a row that Aaron doesn't like - bam! That's it! Aaron won't listen to a song I post EVER AGAIN. That's some serious pressure.

Scott - you can score them both the same then just give us the tiebreak because you're biased. I don't think anyone expects anything more classy than that from FIWK, let's be real.

  10. PS - maybe when it's in reference to songs she suggested, we can call it a Grace period. eh? eh?

  11. Scott, I have no problem if you want to get into quarter happy faces...but you have to be scientific about it. This can't be the only song that receives a .25 or .75. You'll have to go back to all you 2's, 3's and 4's and compare future songs so that you can appropriately bump them up or down a quarter Happy Face.
