Musicals are entirely different than other works of art/entertainment. Musicals are fun without needing to be action-packed or funny.
I worry that one day I will so thoroughly enjoy a live show or musical, but it won't be popular enough to be made into a movie and I will never be able to relive the experience.
Ugh. No offense to you or this song, but I really don't like musicals. I borderline abhor them.
Funny musicals are tolerable for me - I was able to sit through Avenue Q and the Producers. I would watch Spam a Lot also. But I literally walked out of the Lion King musical.
I LOVE musicals - the Lion King musical kind of sucked.
I was just listening to this CD on my way to work this morning; I think my new favorite is "One Short Day" - solely for the happiness it evokes. Overall, this is one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard simply due to the harmonizing ability of Kristin Chenoweth (Glinda - also Annabeth from the West Wing, Royce) and Idina Menzel (Elphaba). But, it has to be the original soundtrack as these two harmonize MUCH better than others I've heard.
Yes I know Kristin Chenoweth from West Wing, she was great as the speaking tutor for Toby.
I realized long ago that I have some mental block about musicals that most people don't; understand that it's a flaw within myself when I say that soundtrack sounds like a hideous experience. I can sit through 3-hour Shakespeare plays, but when a single song bursts out 10 minutes into a Broadway show, I want to leave immediately.
