I'm trying something new - I am about to begin reading Better: A Surgeon's Notes on Performance by Atul Gawande. Gawande is also the author of the New Yorker article on health care costs we discussed a few weeks ago. I want to post updates after each chapter, feel free to read along with me if you like. The intro will be discussed next week.

He also is the author of a book called Complications: A Surgeon's Notes on an Imperfect Science. Based on his interview with Scientific American about Better, I think this book will provide many more insights into health care and reforming the system. I will put a link to the interview up next week so you have a point of reference for discussion even if you aren't reading the book.
ReplyDeleteBefore the intro (or maybe as part of it), can you provide a little background on the author? Is he a current, practicing surgeon, who is also a writer. Did he used to be a surgeon and now writes full time?
ReplyDeleteWill do as part of the intro discussion
ReplyDeleteYou're either one slow reader, or one poor updater! :)
ReplyDeleteI've just begun his book as well (midway through chapter 2), and would love to discuss as we both progress through the book.
Let me put up my intro post and chapter 1, since I didn't think anyone was really reading before I let it slide... my bad
