Music Tuesdays - If I Die Young by The Band Perry

Don't know why I like this one. Hopefully it's a compromise for me and Royce

  1. In my mind, this feels like a song right up Royce's alley. Haven't listened to this yet, but I already have the song stuck in my head.

I'll come back later to apply Happy Faces.

  2. Such a sad song.

Completely a Royce special. Surprised you enjoy it Aaron.

    4/5 Happy Faces.

  3. I never actually watched the video until just now. I didn't realize it even shares the canoe on a river visual with Royce's previous selection.

I want to say it's the lyrics right from the beginning that suck me in and make me want to listen more. And then she repeats then often enough throughout the song. There's a really high level of emotion/energy for me in the lyrics "If I die young, bury me in sand, lay me down on a bed of roses..."

  4. I like the poetry of "the sharp knife of a short life", but I am not a fan of how they draw out life. Diminishes the harshness of the line and the image, and stretching out a "short life" long seems strange to me.

  5. Great music compromise. Aaron you surprise me (in a good way) sometimes.

  6. Speaking of surprises, MP that was a really in-depth lyrics analysis you did right there. As a college English major, I am really impressed. Can I interest you in some Shakespeare?

  7. Hey, I have my moments. I have a great appreciation for thoughtful, consonant lyrics - perhaps even more than a good melody. I just love constructing phrases that sound good to the ear. Would have been an English Major myself, but I have an appalling lack of tweed in my wardrobe.

  8. So, I actually watched the Adele - Someone Like You video for the first time and noticed it takes place in Paris. I love it even more now.
