Music Tuesdays - I Follow Rivers by Lykke Li

As hyped by our friend C-Mac, here is a new single by Swedish musician Lykke Li. Much like Bon Iver and Land of Talk, I am catching onto this artist at the time of their second album being released, but the songs off the first album are all pretty darn good too.

  1. Two other things related to Music Tuesdays that I want to talk about:

    1. Tomorrow morning on KCRW.com is a performance by Daniel Lanois, best known for his song The Maker. Which is strangely even better known for its covers by the likes of Dave Matthews than it is for its original version. Fun fact: Daniel Lanois is a Quebecois musician.

    2. Anyone watch the Grammys? Care to discuss? Was there anything more surprising than jazz musician Esperanza Spalding winning best new artist over Justin Beiber and Drake? Pretty awesome.

  2. I don't think I have EVER watched the Grammy's. I tend to follow the Simpsons philosophy of award shows.

  3. I'm completely torn on this song, and since I'm too tired/lazy to come up with reasons why, I'm giving it 3/5 Happy Faces.

I watched portions of the Grammy, and the only thing worth noting was the performance by Bob Dylan: I hadn't heard of either group playing with him (Mumford & Sons & The Avett Brothers), but I enjoyed them both very much. My question is this: what genre are they? Folk Rock?

  4. Scooter, when you are able to summon up some energy I would be really curious to know what it is about this Lykke Li song that makes you so torn.

Great question about what genre Mumford & Sons and The Avett Brothers fall into... basic rule of thumb: if your band's got a banjo, you are some kind of folk music. Folk rock sounds like as good a descriptor as any...

  5. This song, isn't bad, but it's not good either. I don't despise it, but I'm probably not going to take the time to listen to it again. It has good emotion, but doesn't make me feel anything.

    I nothing this song.
