Music Tuesdays via Grace Boyle - Spanish Sahara by Foals

I really dig this song - thanks Grace! Yet another impeccable find!

  1. Love the song, and I also like the video. I like that it holds a lot of shots and gives the scenery time to sink in. It is haunting in conjunction with the song.

One thing that creeps me out is that the singer looks like he's wearing fake eyelashes. Or mascara. Or something. Eh?

  2. Wait - his eyes creep you out? Not the fact that he's carrying around (and, subsequently burning) random carcasses? You creep me out Royce - you creep me out!

    First 3 minutes: yawn.
Last 4 minutes: not too shabby.

Overall, not your best offering, Royce - you can do better: 2.5/5 Happy Faces.

  3. Wow, I didn't even notice how long the song was. Maybe it was because I don't usually watch the video and I just play it in the background in my headphones while I'm working. I like how it's nice and relaxing, a lot like Sigur Ros and the way their songs extend, dive, climb and then fall back again. It's a progress.

The video is eery and I still think, beautiful.

Scott, you gotta dish to me, not Royce since I "submitted" the Foals :)

  4. But Royce still has the option to accept/reject submissions... :)

  5. 7 minutes? This is definitely a put-on-in-the-background-and-do-other-work song. I completely forgot it was playing until the 2:50 mark or so.

And Grace, we don't like to blame outsiders because that might discourage them from coming back. We like to blame each other.

Royce, I'm not sure what your grace period is at, so I'm going to say that you were at 5 and now you are at 4.

  6. Appeals can be submitted to the FIWK Court of Appeals led by MP and judgements are made by a three person panel consisting of the other three contributors not making the appeal.

Your strongest case in making an appeal is by prefacing a song choice as relaxing or calm. Without any context the song doesn't keep my attention and I move on to other things.

  7. Woah woah woah - appeals? This ain't a democracy son. This is the Music for Tuesday, and that's it.

You definitely have to take a "put this music on in the background while you do something" approach to this song, it is quite long.

I actually thought I had prefaced this song by saying "very mellow song - nice choice Grace!" but it looks like I didn't actually throw out mellow or relaxing or calm in my description. So that's my bad. Cause that's definitely how the song should be taken.

  8. And Scott - yeah, no, I was good with the carcasses and the carrying and the burning. Man in the lonely, haunting tundra's gotta do what a man in the lonely, haunting tundra's gotta do.

But those eyelashes are creepy as heck. Know what I'm saying?

  9. No. I don't know what you're saying.

  11. I try to be an honest and genuine person. I offer praise when it is deserved and I give you a hard time when it is deserved.

  12. I'm still confused by the appeals process. What are we appealing? Why? How did MP become the lord of appeals?

  13. If Royce wants to appeal my arbitrary decision that his grace period is now at four (4) songs, he needs to submit an appeal to the FIWK Court of Appeals. I made MP the leader to make it harder for Royce to be even able to submit an appeal.
