Which photo is better? Grasshoppers

These are the exact same shot of a grasshopper at the Smithsonian Institute National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C. The only difference is that the photo on the left uses a flash while the photo on the right is sans flash.

7-19-11 update: The photo below was what I meant to include as the non-flash photo. Still gets all the detail, with slightly better lighting and color. What do you think?

  1. I like the new voting tool. Flash is better cause I can see more detail, and that thing looks awesome. But both are very cool.

  2. I agree - flash is better due to the detail. I also think the coloring on the photo w/ flash is much more impressive.

What type of camera are you using for all these shots?

  3. All photos will be taken with either a Nikon D70 (which I had been borrowing from my father-in-law for vacations) or my new Nikon D90.

The grasshoppers and Paris photos were the Nikon D70. The sunset was the Nikon D90.

  4. For someone who has no experience with photography/cameras (other than my nifty Cannon that everyone and their mother has), can you explain the difference b/n the two cameras?

  5. The difference between the D70 and D90 is negligible. The D90 is two generations later in the same line. The few technical improvements are just what you would expect from a newer version. The D70 doesn't have video, while the D90 does. The flash settings are a little easier with the D90, but not necessarily all that different.
