Music Tuesday Extras - I Wanna Get Better by Bleachers

Being that it's the summer and I haven't posted music regularly, I have a big backlog of songs I want to get on FIWK.  Tuesday was a relatively recent, unplayed song by WAZ.  Today it's a song on rotation on the radio that gets me amped up every time I hear it.  Awesome summer party song.

Music Tuesdays - Lazaretto by Jack white

This song is from Jack White's new album, which is due out in June.  I like it.

Music Tuesday on a Friday - Thunder Clatter by Wild Cub

This song has been on the radio a lot lately and I really enjoy it.  Will replace this with the music video if and when it appears.

Music Tuesdays - Isjaki by Sigur Ros

I am surprised we have never had a Sigur Ros song on Music Tuesdays before.  I absolutely love this song; but I realize this band isn't for everybody.  I waited a long time to post this because I was hoping I could find a different video (I hate this one, it bores and disturbs me), but alas I can't find another.  The live versions don't have quite the same haunting aural soundscape as the album track.

Music Tuesdays - Pompeii by Bastille

A fun song.  I am curious if Aaron, in particular, enjoys this song.

Music Tuesdays on Friday - Dreaming by Smallpools

I am thoroughly enjoying this song lately.  I agree with the YouTube commenters that it has kind of a Passion Pit or Temper Trap vibe to it.

Weekend Bonus Music - On the Road Again by Keane

Keane is one of those bands like Hootie and the Blowfish, Goo Goo Dolls, or more recently Lord Huron, where all their songs sound kind of the same.  To the point where if you aren't super familiar with their songs you would be confused as to which particular one you're listening to.  But I enjoy their songs, so I don't really mind.  Keep on doing your thing, Keane.

Music Tuesdays - Jack White at the Grammys

Jack White Grammy Awards 2013 (2) by dm_511f5e89b0eac
Another live performance on the FIWK music blog.  This one is from the weekend's Grammys - I thought Jack White absolutely rocked it.  We are generally fans of Jack White here at the blog, but this is probably my favorite version of him... as the immortal MP put it, this is the old school, ass-kicking, hillbilly rock vibe at its best.

Music Tuesdays - Blak and Blu by Gary Clark Jr

Gary Clark Jr has his new album out today, and I have been anticipating it for a while. Excited to start listening to it!

Bonus Music Friday - Love Interruption by Jack White

For fun, this new song by Jack White which has some of the most entertaining lyrics for a love song I've ever heard. Shades of Shakespeare's "Sonnet 130" if you ask me.

Coachella Week on FIWK - Bright Lights by Gary Clark Jr

To commemorate a the two weekends of Coachella beginning today, we're going to throw up a bunch of songs by artists playing Coachella. We also featured most of them on FIWK already at some point. You may remember another song, When My Train Pulls in by Gary Clark Jr, from a few weeks back. Love this guy.

Music Tuesdays - When My Train Pulls In by Gary Clark Jr

That is a rocking performance (thanks to KCRW for recording it). Actually what would you say: is this more rock, more blues, or just bluesy rock?

Music Tuesdays - The Sound of Winter by Bush

In the spirit of musical compromise that Aaron gifted me last week, I would like to present this new Bush song. I was really surprised to hear Bush with a new single on the radio. Big fan.

Music Tuesdays - Go To Sleep by Radiohead

Radiohead was in the news recently because of their rumored gig at Occupy Wall Street. That got me listening to them, and I got this song in my head of all things.

Music Tuesdays - Just Because by Jane's Addiction

Apparently today is the birthday of Perry Farrell, the lead singer of Jane's Addiction. So here is a Jane's Addiction song.

Music Tuesdays - Blue Orchid by White Stripes

Since apparently the White Stripes broke up last week, I dusted off one of my random favorite White Stripes songs. Also in contention for a randomly good single is Icky Thump, but honestly the video creeped me out a little too much.

Were you a fan or not a fan of the White Stripes?

Music Tuesdays - Injection by Rise Against

In the holiday spirit, I am giving Aaron the gift of a song he probably actually likes. For once. I was not familiar with this Rise Against song but I like it... it has their specific sound, certainly.

Who is more likely to enjoy Classical music?

So, it's pretty clear that Royce and I are pretty far apart in our tastes in music. Without any sound, you can tell he probably likes whatever the guy on the right is playing, while I prefer the group on the left. Now, I'm going to argue that songs played acoustically tend to emphasize the singer and the lyrics, while rock bands with electric guitars will focus on the music/harmony/melody and will even go into extended guitar/bass/drum solos just to hear more of the music some of these musicians are capable of. I'm going to further argue that Mr. Acoustic is more likely to enjoy a poem, being lyrics with no music, and Mr. Rock is more likely to enjoy Classical music...all melody, no lyrics. (Especially when it includes cannons or explosions)

You see what I did right there?!? BAM!!
